How much caffeine is in Death Wish Coffee?

Death Wish Coffee says that their unique roast is “…two times more caffeinated than your average coffee house cuppa joe” per 6 oz cup.  But don’t just take their word for it.

According to Consumer Reports, an 8oz cup of Death Wish Coffee contains around 472 mg of caffeine compared to an 8 oz cup of Starbucks’ dark roast that contains 260 mg of caffeine or your normal house coffee that contains around 120 mg of caffeine.

So, how do they do it?  It starts with the bean blend.  Death Wish Coffee is typically sourced from India and Peru, but they are constantly sampling and testing Organic and Fair Trade coffee beans from all over the world to ensure customers get the strongest coffee on Earth.

They use a blend of Arabica and Indian Robusta beans to amp up the coffee and give it a bold flavor.  Most coffee is made with 100% Arabica beans and the Indian Robusta beans have more caffeine allowing for the higher overall caffeine content in each cup.  SHOP NOW >>

Is Death Wish Coffee safe?

We searched the internet and found that most experts feel that healthy adults can safely consume around 400 mg of caffeine daily without any adverse side effects. But of course, that will vary depending on a person’s weight, age, gender, metabolism, if they have any caffeine sensitivities or if they have built up a tolerance to caffeine.

One cup of Death Wish Coffee should be safe for most healthy adults.  My husband and I both enjoyed a cup and enjoyed the extra boost of caffeine without any adverse effects.

We recommend starting with one cup and seeing how it goes.  After all, caffeine has been shown to keep you awake, increase your performance, and help you concentrate.  But too much caffeine can cause nervousness, jitters, or a headache.

Death Wish Coffee is also USDA Certified Organic and Fair Trade.  This means that there are no additives and that the beans are NOT fertilized with synthetic nitrogen and phosphates that destroy groundwater and deplete vital nutrients in the soil – safer for you and better for the environment.  In addition, because Death Wish Coffee is Fair Trade, farmers get a liveable wage and fair working conditions.  SHOP NOW >>

I have to admit that I was a little scared to try the “World’s Strongest Coffee”.   I was worried that I would be jittery, that it would taste bitter or too strong, and that there would be too much caffeine.

I’m not a huge coffee drinker, but when I do have a cup, usually in the afternoon to get over the after-lunch slump, I like to taste the coffee flavor and prefer medium and dark roasts for that reason.  I take my coffee with a splash of milk or flavored creamer. SHOP NOW >>

With nervous excitement, I made a cup of Death Wish Coffee in my Keurig using a universal K-Cup pod and followed the recommended brewing ratio of 2.5 tablespoons of grinds per every 6 ounces of water.  That recommendation is for a drip machine, to ensure a kick of caffeine without compromising the overall taste, but I figured it would work for the universal pod as well. SHOP NOW >>

TIP:  Using a universal coffee pod (like these) in your single-serve coffee maker is a great way to save money and help the environment because you can buy 1lb+ bags of coffee, which are cheaper than pods, and you reuse the universal pod which means no waste.  Win-Win!

I added a splash of vanilla creamer and braced myself as I took a sip.    I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of this coffee!  It was smooth and bold, but not bitter at all.  And boy does it give you a kick!

Death Wish Coffee has about 2X the amount of caffeine than in a normal 6oz cup of coffee and if you are used to drinking two or three cups of coffee in the morning you may have to scale back to just one or pace yourself.

I slowly sipped my Death Wish Coffee over a couple of hours, warming it up once, enjoying the energy I got from the caffeine and didn’t feel jittery. SHOP NOW >>

Death Wish Coffee: Valhalla Jave Odin Force Blend

    death-wish-coffee-valhalla-java-odin-force

In addition to the original Death Wish Coffee blend, there is also the Valhalla Java Odin Force blend.  According to Death Wish Coffee, this artisan blend was created for “…the world’s most powerful guitarist, Zakk Wylde. With maximum flavor and high caffeine content, this blend will bring you back from the nights you thought you’d never wake up from.”

The biggest difference between the original Death Wish Coffee blend and the Valhalla Java Odin Force blend is the strength, with the Death Wish blend being the stronger and darker roast of the two with a slightly different flavor profile.

In addition, Valhalla Java uses a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans sourced from Honduras, Guatemala, Sumatra, Peru, and India.  Both are Organic and Fair Trade.

Valhalla Java comes in a 12-ounce bag and can make 68, 6-ounce cups of coffee using the same recommended brewing measurements for Death Wish Coffee, of 2.5 tablespoons to every 6 ounces of water.
