Sterling Vineyards, established in 1964 by Sir Peter Newton, a British Knight, and Oxford scholar, is one of the most visited wineries in Napa Valley and is renowned for crafting world-class wines.
Sterling Wines’ eight vineyards are located throughout the Napa Valley region and produce a range of grape varietals.
Amidst this challenging time for the vineyard, I was fortunate to be able to secure a bottle of their 2015 Reserve Calistoga Cabernet Franc, with grapes sourced primarily from their Tamagni Vineyard in Calistoga.
Knowing what a tasting treat this wine was likely to be, we took special care to create a meal that would let this wine shine — and did it ever. Shop now >>
After decanting the Cab Franc for 40 minutes before serving, I poured the wine into the glass and admired its beautiful, bright, pale ruby coloring. Taking a hearty whiff followed by a generous sip, I sat back, closed my eyes, smiled, and said aloud,
“That is one of the most elegant wines I’ve ever tasted.”
My palate picked up notes of tart black cherry, ripe blackberries, plumb and black pepper, all of which went exceptionally well with the juicy steak, herbs de Provence-spiced fingerling potatoes, and buttery green beans, followed by a rich, chocolatey cupcake for dessert. Shop now >>
Even though we had a decadent dinner prepared to pair with this wine, I have no doubt I would have been just as satisfied sipping it with no fare at all. Shop now >>
Sterling Vineyards has 5 wine collections, Iridium, Reserve, Winery Exclusives, Napa Collection, and Vinter’s Collection, each focused on bringing you the best that the Napa Valley has to offer.
The crown jewel of this vineyard is the Iridium Collection, “Made in only the very best vintages with the finest and most intense expression of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Iridium is the pinnacle of winemaking perfection.”
At the time of this posting, there were two Iridium Cabernet Sauvignon vintages available both priced at $175 and rated 96 points and 93 points, respectively. Shop now >>
Many of the wines from Sterling Vineyards are highly rated (and for good reason!), including the 2016 Sterling Vineyards Sleeping Lady Vineyard Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon that has a rating of 98 points.
